What is staph infection?
Staph infections are normally a reference to the Staphylococcus bacteria. This type of flesh eating bacteria is the most common cause of sore throats and nasal irritations.
It is not unusual for people to be carrying around this type of bacteria everyday and to not suffer from it. It is easily transmitted and for the most part rarely cause is anything more than mild irritation. There are more than 30 types of Staphylococcus bacteria each one is a little different. And as with all bacteria some are more resistant to antibiotics than others. The most talked about of these is the MRSA.
It is possible for all types of his bacteria to infect any open wound and cause complications. This can arise an area which
looks like pimples or patchy red dots. It can sometimes look like a very large scab. If you were to look under microscope you could see that these are very much like very small grapes. If left untreated, besides any possible scarring there is also the possibility of developing meningitis, blood poisoning [septicemia], and even pneumonia.
There are also other problems that the staph infection can cause such as heart and urinary problems, and this can lead to the necessity for surgical procedures. Any person that is not in the peak of health is at serious risk of developing life-threatening problems. For this reason hospitals are now very careful about washing hands even for visitors because of the risk of transferring this type of bacteria to the already weak.
It is not uncommon for people to mistake patches of acne. The damage skin from irritation of normal acne can allow a staph infection to take hold in multiple, especially around the edges of the nose and mouth.
It is essential to have good cleanliness especially for the hands, and avoid touching your own nose and mouth especially in food preparation areas for the elderly and the very young, as well as keeping your hands clean with an antiseptic antibacterial hand wash.
If you already have a staph infection you can attempt to clean it very carefully and disinfect it and cover it with an emolient which will stop it from damaging the skin permanently as well as using some type of bandage full-time reason. It is not wise to rub it and possibly spread the infection to other parts of the body or two other people. You must seek medical advice as soon as possible, to make sure that you have a strain that is curable by antibiotic means and not one of the resistant strains!
